Abstract

The possibility of life beyond Earth is one of science’s most enduring questions. Astrobiology brings together astronomy, chemistry, geology, and biology to investigate how life begins, what environments can support it, and where evidence might be found. Researchers study extreme environments on Earth, examine the atmospheres of distant planets, and explore worlds such as Mars and the icy moons of the outer Solar System. No confirmed evidence of extraterrestrial life has yet been established, but ongoing research is refining the methods used to search for signs of habitability and biological activity.
